Gay Catholics Applaud Massachusetts Court Ruling on Same-Sex Marriage
Signed “Friend of the Court” Brief
November 18, 2003 — Leaders of DignityUSA, the organization for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Catholics and their supporters, expressed their joy about today's decision in Massachusetts' highest court ruling that same-sex couples are legally entitled to marry under the state constitution. Both DignityUSA and Dignity/Boston signed onto a "friend of the court" brief in this case.

Boston, MA Chuck Provancher, president of Dignity/Boston, the group that gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender Catholics and others have called home for more than 30 years, testified before a joint committee of the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives in Boston yesterday. Provancher called for justice and civil rights for same-sex couples -- providing a counterpoint to official Catholic voices that have opposed civil protections and religious recognition for same-sex couples and families.

Boston — Leaders of Dignity/Boston, a group of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered Catholics and allies, express disappointment and dismay that the newly arrived Archbishop of Boston, Sean P. O'Malley OFM Cap. will make his first public statement on issues affecting thousands of gay Catholics in the Archdiocese to an anti-gay group. O'Malley is slated to deliver the opening prayer to a conference entitled "SOS, The Summit of October to Save Marriage" sponsored by the Massachusetts Family Institute on Thursday, October 2 in Wayland, MA.
